Carbon Literacy

Carbon Literacy

The Carbon Literacy Project aims to ensure that everyone is able to understand the relevance of climate change and global warming to their own lives. The approach enables people to understand that they have the opportunity to benefit from adopting low carbon lifestyles and working practices. At the core of the approach are two principles: course materials and content should be relevant to the people participating and course delivery should be through group activities led by a peer – “someone like me”.

Cynnal Cymru is the Official Partner of the Carbon Literacy Trust in Wales. We provide certified Carbon Literacy training and we can help you develop your own approaches that suit your peer group but still conform to the Carbon Literacy Standard and can thence be certified. The National Museum of Wales, leading housing associations, and Public Health Wales have all done our course as have many small businesses, voluntary groups and public sector professionals.

Carbon Literacy is a concept created in Manchester by Cooler Projects Ltd. and administered by the Carbon Literacy Trust. The BBC, Scottish Government, BAFTA, Manchester Metropolitan University, the Mayor of Amsterdam, Manchester City Council and Jacobs are just some of the organisations who have embraced this approach to motivate staff and change behaviours. Cynnal Cymru is working with Cooler Projects and the Carbon Literacy Trust to promote Carbon Literacy in Wales.
