National Research Network for Low Carbon Energy and Environment (NRN-LCEE) Funding Opportunities

The Sêr Cymru National Research Network for Low Carbon, Energy and Environment (NRN-LCEE) is a major pan-Wales initiative funded by the Welsh Government Sêr Cymru initiative and the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales.

The Network supports collaborative and interdisciplinary research in Wales into the interactions between land, water, the provision of food and energy production, at different spatial scales across air-land-water systems.

NRN-LCEE aims to support and promote excellent, internationally competitive science in Wales, foster increased and novel collaboration between researchers in Wales, establish a new basis for a sustainable increase in research funding to Wales and encourage researchers with excellent track records to establish themselves in Wales

There are currently two opportunities available to researchers in the field of sustainability.

Returning Fellowships

The eligibility criteria for the second round of NRN-LCEE Returning Fellowships have been updated to allow for a larger pool of researchers to apply to this opportunity. NRN-LCEE Returning Fellowships are for researchers who are returning/ have returned from a period of leave, for reasons of maternity/ paternity/ adoption/ health/ caring. Individual Fellowships of up to £20,000 each are available for researchers returning after a minimum of 6 months of leave. Previously, the minimum period was 12 months. Because of this change, the deadline for proposals has been extended to 17 December 2015.

Applicants should have returned to (full or part time) work between 1 June 2014 and 31 December 2016, and have a contract of employment at a Welsh HEI, the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology at Bangor or the British Geological Survey Wales that extends beyond 30 June 2018.More details available on the NRN-LCEE website.

Research Development Fund

Funding is available to support new research developments and/or to expand opportunities for knowledge transfer, as well as engagement with stakeholders and industry initiatives.

The Research Development Fund is available for initiatives that can demonstrate a contribution towards the development of the Welsh research capacity within the thematic research areas of the NRN-LCEE.

More information and deadlines for funding is available on the website.
