Sustainable Development Bill

The Welsh Government has made a commitment in its Programme of Government to legislate on sustainable development.

The Sustainable Development Bill will:

  • Make sustainable development the centre of all activities and decisions of the Welsh Government and public bodies in Wales, building on the commitment of One Wales: One Planet;
  • Create an independent sustainable development body for Wales to give external advice and support to help the Welsh Government’s work on sustainable development.

The Welsh Government is currently collecting evidence and beginning stakeholder engagement to inform the development of the Sustainable Development Bill.

The aim is for the Bill to be introduced into the National Assembly for Wales in autumn 2013.
