Sustainable Development – Our Central Organising Principle

Cynnal Cymru is committed to promoting sustainable development, and adhering to its principles, in all that it does. We understand sustainable development as:

The enhancement of the economic, social and environmental wellbeing of people and communities, both locally and globally, achieving a better quality of life for our own and future generations in ways which:

  • Promote social justice and equality of opportunity; and
  • Enhance the natural and cultural environment and respect its limits - using only our fair share of the earth’s resources and sustaining our cultural legacy.

We understand the principles of sustainable development as being those included in the Welsh Government’s Sustainable Development Scheme, One Wales: One Planet, that is:

  • Living within environmental limits;
  • Ensuring a strong, healthy and just society;
  • Achieving a sustainable economy;
  • Promoting good governance;
  • Using sound science responsibly.

In line with One Wales: One Planet, sustainable development is our central organising principle and we align our activities to achieving the vision of a sustainable Wales.

Cynnal Cymru is proud of its commitment to sustainable development. We have in place our own Corporate Social Responsibility Policy which defines the key principles that we work to as an organisation - this focuses on ‘People – Planet – Practice’. We are a registered 10:10 organisation and are fully committed to reducing our own environmental impact.
