We have been instrumental in supporting the Welsh Government develop and implement the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act referred to by Nikhil Seth, Director, Division for Sustainable Development, United Nations as…
“…what Wales is doing today the world will do tomorrow.”
Since 2002 we have represented a community of thousands of organisations and individuals committed to realising the vision of a sustainable Wales and a more sustainable world.
We worked with partners to publish the influential Transformation Nation report. We instigated the Emergence-Eginiad initiative which brought scientists and artists together in a dialogue about our common future and has since spawned numerous practical projects and fostered a greater awareness of sustainability in the arts.
We have for the last four years provided the research and secretariat support for The Sustainable Futures Commissioner and The Climate Change Commission for Wales.
We managed the Sustainable Development Charter on behalf of the Welsh Government and oversaw the growth of signatories from 60 to nearly 400 in three years including major multinationals, public bodies, SMEs, micro businesses and charities. We organised training events, task groups, seminars, conferences, webinars, collaborations and site visits. We provided the communications, press and PR role and managed the website.
We initiated the Wales Green Heroes project which recognised and celebrated the inspirational work of 104 individuals: a photographic exhibition of the heroes toured Wales and America. Our annual Sustain Wales Awards continues to honour the achievements of the amazing people who believe a better world is possible.
We are the only organisation in Wales providing specialised work-based training on sustainability. We offer accredited and bespoke training for senior managers or general staff.
The course [Business Leadership in Sustainable Development] helped us to frame our work in a way that will enable us to demonstrate to funders, tenants and partners that we are delivering integrated environmental, social and economic well-being.

We are very pleased with the facilitation and training service provide by Cynnal Cymru. They provided a structured basis for our senior management team to critically analyse our strategy in relation to sustainability in Wales with particular reference to the important Well-being of Future Generations Act. Their knowledge of policy and the subject matter blended well with their facilitation skills. The training methods employed were appropriate, focused and relevant and the session was well-received by staff across the organisation.
Ruth Marks, Chief Executive WCVA
Cynnal Cymru have assisted us through our journey to create a detailed report on our business operations that extend further than just cricket. The combination of training and advice has helped us communicate how we fit into the sustainable development framework in Wales.
Dan Cherry, Glamorgan County Cricket Club
Working with Cynnal Cymru has really helped us to get Sustainable Development on the agenda at a corporate level and we would highly recommend that other organisations avail themselves of these excellent services.

I found the seminar I attended on Thursday March 6th on sustainability extremely interesting as it re-focused my priorities to help Agored Cymru sign up to the Sustainability Charter. It gave me useful graphics and visuals to analyse the themes and concepts of sustainability and to remind me of the inter linking nature of environment, social justice and the economy.
