Green Drinks – celebrating entrepreneurial spirit!
On the 27th September we held our 5th Green Drinks networking event. Our wonderful hosts and Cynnal Cymru Member, United Purpose told a packed room about the work they are doing around the world to help communities develop resilience and new opportunities; improving health, developing jobs and prosperity and tackling the consequences of climate change. United Purpose’s CEO, Kathryn Llewellyn explained why the organisation had relocated to Cardiff and now benefits from partnership with many other like-minded organisations based in the capital.
This sense of Cardiff and Wales as being a place where Sustainable Development is understood and coherent with business culture and public policy was endorsed by our special guest, Jane Davidson, former Minister and now Director of INSPIRE at Trinity St. Davids University of Wales. She recalled the process the led from devolution to the establishment of the Well-being of Future Generations Act, and we were very grateful for her public recognition of the role Cynnal Cymru played in that evolution. Jane believes, like us, that Wales has everything needed to support entrepreneurial approaches to Sustainable Development across all sectors. She praised Cynnal Cymru for successfully re-inventing itself as a charitable enterprise and encouraged all members and partners of the organisation to be bold, demand more and continue working in partnership for a prosperous, fair society thriving in harmony with natural systems.
A fine example of this entrepreneurial spirit was given by Jon Davies, Director and founder of Lightology. The company is a member of Cynnal Cymru and has used its membership to network and establish meaningful partnerships. Lightology provide LED lighting solutions for all types of organisation, reducing budgets and carbon emissions by as much as 60%. We think Lightology are great – for their can do attitude, their restless search for low carbon solutions and for using the Cynnal Cymru membership to do successful business with like-minded organisations.
So we say to all sustainability entrepreneurs from the private public and voluntary sectors – come and join Cynnal Cymru! In this community you will find others like you who take a no-nonsense, practical approach to creating a biodiverse, cohesive, low carbon, fair, healthy, well-educated, resource efficient, responsible and resilient Cymru!
