10 November | Festival of Social Science event on Climate Change
Significantus is a piano and spoken word project created by pianist and composer Lola Perrin. This has been touring since September 2016; each performance is in collaboration with expert guest speakers (ecological economists, lawyers, scientists, artists and other thinkers) and features a conversation with the audience. For the Cardiff event, Lola is performing together with guest speakers Dr Stuart Capstick(School of Psychology, Cardiff University) and Dr Adam Corner(Climate Outreach). As specialists in the psychology of climate change, Stuart and Adam will ask how we can best confront this complex topic, in ways that inspire us as individuals and help bring about a more sustainable future. A conversation (not a Q&A) with the audience follows, creating an opportunity for audience members to talk with each other about what they’ve just heard. Comments, thoughts and responses are shared, facilitated by Stuart and Adam. After the conversation, a final piano piece is performed. And thus, the conversation is symbolically placed at the heart of the music performance.
As well as holding the concert and wider discussion in the evening, we will be running a pre-concert talk designed to explore in more detail people’s concerns about climate change, and hopes for building low-carbon lives and societies. As part of this, Lola, Stuart and Adam will reflect on their own motivations for becoming involved in research, campaigning and communication of climate change. This will be held from 4pm to 5pm at the same venue, and is free to attend (all welcome!)
The event is free but places are limited. For more information and to book a ticket please visit the Climate Keys website.
