Wales leads on recycling
Wales has the highest municipal recycling rate in the UK and in the top four in Europe!
New provisional figures published last week show recycling in Wales continues to increase and is at its highest ever recorded level. In 2015/16 the average combined reuse, recycling and composting rate across local authorities was 60%, an increase of 4 percentage points on last year’s figure. It is also the first year levels have increased beyond the ambitious target of 58% suggesting Wales is on its way to achieving the recycling target of 70% by 2025 and a zero waste nation by 2050.
Wales aims to have the highest national recycling rate in the world with the ultimate ambition of achieving a ‘carbon neutral Wales by 2020”.
Recycling Week begins on 12th September and is a great opportunity to think about how we can do even better and reduce our impact on the planet. Throughout Recycling week we will be raising awareness of the great work some of our members but also other innovative businesses in Wales are undertaking to reduce their waste to landfill and embrace sustainability.
